The emergence of laparoscopic technology has triggered innovations in surgical methods. Compared with traditional open surgery, the benefits of laparoscopic technology include: Reduced postoperative pain, earlier recovery of normal activities after surgery, and fewer postoperative complications.

 However, the abdominal surgery performed for laparoscopic surgery has unique complications and is most likely to occur during the first abdominal surgery. For example, intestinal injury or large blood vessel injury caused by accident is not common, but it may be life-threatening.

Before any laparoscopic surgery starts, you need to enter the peritoneal cavity; The first is to establish the pneumoperitoneum, and then to install the laparoscopic channels, and to install additional channels for various laparoscopic devices. When choosing an entry location, attention should be paid to the existing surgical incisions, especially where the mesh patch has been placed. The position that has not previously received instrument operation is the preferred position for the first abdominal implantation, and the mesh patch position should be avoided. If this condition is not possible, the access opening (including the edge of any mesh patch) should be closed with permanent sutures at the end of the operation.

Laparoscopic abdominal access can be performed by open technique (i.e. Hasson method) or closed technique (eg Veress needle, visual abdominal trocar). Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and these methods are not suitable as a general method of laparoscopic abdominal surgery. During an operation, different abdominal access methods can also be used for the placement of the primary and secondary passages. 

Before entering the peritoneal cavity, the stomach and bladder should be decompressed to minimize the possibility of bowel or bladder damage.
