In 2015, the number of deaths caused by obesity in the world exceeded 4 million. Obesity has become a global health problem and a "health killer" for all people.

According to The Lancet Global Health ("The Lancet Global Health") report, my country's total obese population ranks first in the world, with 46% of adults and 15% of children diagnosed as obese or overweight. A recent NEJM (New England Journal of Medicine) survey even pointed out that obesity is significantly associated with increased risk of 13 cancers, including lung cancer, and will lead to a worse prognosis and survival rate.

When obese patients with high BMI values can no longer reduce weight and related diseases through diet, exercise or medical treatment, weight loss and metabolic surgery become a very effective treatment. Bariatric surgery has been carried out internationally for nearly 70 years. Due to its safety and effectiveness, it has been widely accepted and recognized by everyone. It can effectively improve the quality of life of patients while reducing the incidence of related diseases. 

However, there is still a big gap between the domestic popularity and the level in developed countries such as Europe and the United States at present, mainly due to the following reasons:

1. There is a blind spot in the cognition of bariatric surgery, lack of scientific understanding and correct guidance;

2. The theory and practice of bariatric surgery in China are mostly uneven and need to be improved urgently.
