The appendix starts from the cecum. Most children have the appendix located in the right lower abdomen. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix is infected or swollen, which may cause the appendix to rupture and cause serious infection.
Appendicitis can occur in both children and adults, and the risk of disease in older children and adolescents is higher than in infants and young children.

Surgical method:
Appendectomy is still the first choice for early appendicitis. Laparoscopic appendectomy is usually recommended for children with early appendicitis. This minimally invasive surgery has many advantages such as small incision, less pain, and quick recovery.

Recovery cycle:
Generally speaking, for all types of appendicitis (simple, purulent, late or perforated with localized abscess/cellulitis), the time to discharge depends on the patient's condition.
If the child has no fever, can tolerate general food, has no pain, or is well controlled with non-opioid analgesics, he can be discharged from the hospital, or even on the same day.
This standard is also applicable to patients with advanced appendicitis, which generally takes a long time to achieve. Depending on the child's recovery during and after the operation, the child may need to be hospitalized for 3-5 days.
